markagrip Handrail Tape

A vital feature in modern workplaces, the markagrip Handrail Tape meets the requirements of the UK Building Regulations Act 2000. This stipulates that all handrails in public settings must be 'slip resistant and not cold to the touch'. Here, this versatile tape offers a non-abrasive surface solution designed for comfort with those not wearing gloves. It has a dimple patterned surface which is both aesthetically pleasing and works to meet that need for anti-slip service. This also gives a soft and comfortable surface to touch which fits in with any interior design and does the required job effectively.
To prevent the handrail from being uncomfortable to the touch, this tape has a plastic film insulator which prevents the chill from penetrating through from the metal base. This has also been further enhanced with an under-surface, laminated layer of PET. It can be applied in minutes and features a host of hidden benefits, including its inability to retain water and therefore ability to be freeze-resistant. The tape can be wrapped around the chosen hand rail at an angle or straight and comes in both standard and custom-made dimensions to suit your requirements. This makes it a suitable option for all manner of industries and sectors.

1. Material Storage
The material should be stored in a warm, dry conditions in the original protective packaging to prolong its lifespan
2. Surface Preparation
As with all of our markagrip range, the surface should be clean and dry. Ideally an IPA cleaner should be used to remove all surface contaminants such as paint flakes. Do not under any circumstances use petrol, lighter fluid or methylated spirits to complete this process because they leave behind a thin, greasy residue. The prepared surface should be above 10°C.
3. Porous Surface Sealing
Before application, any porous surfaces should be sealed to prevent water attacking the adhesive. Ideally you should apply Toluene based primers. Apply a thin coat to the clean surface using a paint brush and then leave to dry
4. Tape Application
Peel back part of the release liner and then press firmly onto the prepared surface, gradually peeling back the liner as you apply the tape. Make sure that the tape is not too taut.
Once the tape has been applied, press the tape down firmly using even pressure (a decorating roller is perfect for this task). The handrail tape can be used instantly but you will achieve maximum benefit from the adhesive system after 48 hours.
